Mission
The continuing cyber-technology revolution, from hand held computing
to the globally integrated broadband Internet, has transformed the
qualities required for regional economic success and opened options
for new approaches to transportation planning and services, land use
planning and regulation, government service delivery, and neighborhood
democracy. Yet few regional institutions and local governments have
recognized this new reality. The Strategic Technology Collaborative
is dedicated to helping regions, cities and neighborhoods strategically
deploy these new technologies to solve chronic problems and meet vital
goals.
The mission of the Strategic Technology Collaborative is to help cities
and regions adopt technology plans and effectively deploy digital technologies
to achieve their goals.
Digital technologies increasingly play a significant role in our day-to-day
activities and in the ways governments, non-profits and other organizations
understand and plan for urban areas. However, most communities lack
strategic technology plans for using new tools to solve old problems.
As these technologies are increasingly recognized as a strategic resource
for producing livable communities and sustainable economies, the need
for a solid community technology plan becomes all the more acute.
The Collaborative intends to develop high profile strategic technology
plans that can be used as models for the practice of technology planning.
One of the barriers to adopting technology planning at the local level
is the scarcity of the specialized expertise required to produce a
plan that is strategically linked to the objectives, policies and initiatives
of each public jurisdiction. As multi-disciplinary experts in urban
planning, we assess technology within the context of each city and
region.
